Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham

Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham means “Sometimes Happiness, Sometimes Sadness”. This is a series of self portraits that I created during my time in university. This series is what brought me closer to my myself and helped me find my voice through art. When I was a kid, I disliked my Indian heritage, however growing up I learned to embrace it and it has become an immense part of who I am. I love being able to show off my culture by wearing our native attire such as the lehengas that I am wearing in this series. I find that I am the happiest and the most comfortable when I am in my Indian attire, but it took a lot of growth for me to get here.

Desi Girls

Just like Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham, Desi Girls is a series I created while in university. It is a continuation from my self portraits but in a different direction. For starters, Desi Girls means “Indian Girls” and none of the woman photographed in this series are Indian by blood. It may have taken me half a childhood to accept my culture but, due to my own excitement about sharing this with them, it only took them less than a moments time to accept this culture, and return a significant part of me.

The Still Life: Light

Light, we are surrounded by it every day but you do not think about it until it starts to affect you. You do not think about it until the sun is hitting you in the eyes while you are walking down the street, or until the window is creating a glare on the computer screen you are working on. However, there is not one singular form of light, and that is what make it so joyous. I created this still life series called “Light” to showcase all the different forms light can be found.
